A Variety of Program Options to Choose From

Reptilemania

Learn all about reptiles with the help of some scaly visitors. We will investigate turtles and snakes by looking at eggs, skins, shells, and live specimens. We'll also make a fun reptile craft to take home.

Animal Tracks

Be a nature detective. Learn about the different clues that animals leave behind such as fur, footprints, scat, and others. Identify different footprints of some common Illinois animals. Make a plaster cast mold of a footprint to take home.

Rocks and Minerals

Learn how different types of rocks are made. Investigate the minerals that make up different types of rocks. Try your hand at some experiments that are used to identify different kinds of rocks.

Creepy Crawlies

What makes insects and spiders different? What about worms? We will answer these questions and more as we learn about insects, arachnids, and annelids through discussion and hands-on investigations with live specimens. You may even get to hold a real walking stick!

Hands-on Herptiles

Investigate the differences between amphibians and reptiles. We will talk about the life cycles of both with the help of some live frogs, turtles, and snakes. Learn what makes them so amazing and get the chance to touch a live snake.

The Three Bears

Learn about the three species of North American bears and their habitats: the black bear, the grizzly bear, and the polar bear. Examine their skulls, fur, and claws, and create a special craft to take home.

Fur, Feathers, Scales and Skin

Explore some differences between mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians and their protective coverings. Feel different furs and feathers, and maybe even get up close and personal with a live animal or two.
