LVNC renovation project — Jan.-Apr. 2004

As the Nature Center has grown over the years, it has become apparent that a separate classroom is needed. Families visiting the Nature Center often found the space largely filled by a class or group.

This renovation will provide a separate classroom for groups and programs, leaving the museum space open for visitors.

This is what the Nature Center looked like before.

January: All packed up and ready to move out.

February: The walls come down!

March-April: Things are starting to take shape. On the left you see the walls of the new classroom going up. (The two red ladders are in the classroom.) To the right is the same view but with the wall between the classroom and staff office area in place.

May: Construction was completed just in time for our annual Spring Celebration event on May 8th. (Although not in time to get most of the Nature Center exhibits and activities moved back and unpacked.)

Here (left) you see the "Critter Wall" that will house the Nature Centers' resident animals. The windows behind the cages open into the staff office area. To the right is a multi-use window unit that can be used for seating, exhibit display, hands-on activity drawers, or storage.

The new classroom and reception desk.
