Groups

The Lake View Nature Center offers unique and fun opportunities for your students to explore nature. Our staff will visit your school to present a fun and educational program on the topic of your choice. Curricula will vary depending on age level and State standards. We offer the following programs geared to grade level.

Outreach programs

Preschool - Grade 6

Rocks and Minerals
Students will be able to tell the difference between rocks and minerals while gaining or enhancing their undertanding of the rock cycle. Students will strengthen grade-appropriate identification, classification, measurement, and recording skills.

Grades K - 3

Bite, Tear, or Chew?
Students will learn that the number and kinds of teeth vary among mammals and are clues to what they eat and how they eat. Digestive systems of animals and humans will be compared.

Grades K - 6

Invertebtrate Animals
Students get a hands-on opportunity to discover the wonderful world of animals without backbones. Features hands-on earthworm investigation.

Grades 2 - 6

Food Chains
Using tools, keys, and gifts from our owl friends, students will have fun applying their scientific and sleuthing skills to discover all about food chains and food webs. (And, of course, owls too!)

Fees:  $6.00 per student (minimum $60.00)

           $3.00 per student for District 45 & 48 (minimum $30.00)

Each 1 1/2 hour class focuses on grade-appropriate skills and is adapted to meet the requirements of the Illinois learning standards. These on-site visits to your school can also be followed up by one or more class visits to the Lake View Nature Center so students can learn about fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, animal behavior, and other topics.

Programs are designed for individual classroom presentations, not a large assembly.

Please give us at least two weeks advance notice to book a date.
