Groups

The Lake View Nature Center offers unique and fun opportunities for your students to explore nature. Our staff will help you plan a fun and educational program on the topic of your choice. Curricula will vary depending on age level and State standards. We offer the following programs geared to the seasons. Some of these programs can also be scheduled at other times. Call us for details.

Backyard Detectives
Have fun getting to know the small creatures that live all around us.
 
Fantastic Fall
Learn about trees, their uses, and the animals that live in them.
 
 
Winter Programs

Animal Tracks
Identify animal signs and tracks. Create a plaster cast of an animal footprint.
 
Winter Wildlife
Learn about migration, hibernation, and the ways animals keep warm in the winter.

Spring Cycles
Learn about life cycles by studying plants, butterflies, or other egg-laying animals.
 
Senses
Explore animal and human adaptations of taste, sight, hearing, smell, and touch.

Peek at the Pond
Learn about ponds and the animals that live in them.
 
Fishing
Learn to bait a hook, cast, and fish safely in our stocked lake. Identify some common fish species and learn about Illinois fishing laws.
 
Camping Fun
Put up a tent and learn about camping equipment and fire safety. Enjoy a campfire in our campfire circle.

Meet LVNC's resident turtles and snakes. Find out what makes these cold-blooded animals so fascinating.
 
The Three Bears
Learn about the three kinds of North American bears.
 

Fees:  $5.00 per student (minimum $45.00)

           $3.00 per student for District 45 & 48 (minimum $30.00)

 

Staff-led programs last 1 1/2 hours. These programs may include hands-on and visual exploration, experiments, craft activities, stories, and discussion.

Maximum class size is 24 students. Larger groups can be accommodated but may require additional staff and fees.

Groups must provide at least one chaperone for every 10 students. We do not charge for chaperones.

Dress for outdoor activities. Most of our programs include outdoor time—rain or shine. In hazardous weather, alternative activities may be substituted.

Please give us at least two weeks advance notice to book a date.
