Lake View Nature Center's classes are designed to encourage your child's love of nature and the outdoors. We help them develop their sense of wonder through age-appropriate topics, creative exploration, and fun activities.

Summer 2008

Young Explorers
Ages 3-6
Registration info

Discover some of nature's secrets with crafts, activities, and games.

Class meets two Mondays each month, either in the morning (9:30 to 11:00 am) or in the afternoon (12:30 to 2:00 pm).

Wear gym shoes or boots and plan to go outside. (No open toe shoes.)

Nature Navigators
Ages 6-9
Registration info

Explore the world of nature. Each class will focus on a theme from environmental science or natural history. Activities include projects, hikes, experiments, games, and take-home activities. A snack is included.

Class meets once a month on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

Dress to go outside. (No open toe shoes.)

Fishing Fun

ESI: Oakbrook Terrace
Ages 9-12

Environmental Science Investigations is a Saturday afternoon class for kids who enjoy investigating scientific principles, experiments, and hands-on activities.

Participants will learn simple data collection and analysis techniques, and work with equipment used by real scientists to study plants and animals.

Class meets one Saturday a month from 1:00 to 4:00 pm in the afternoon. Participants should come prepared to go outside and get dirty. (No open toe shoes.)

Get Hooked on Fishing
5 and up
Registration info

Fishing is a great way to spend a summer day. Learn basic fishing techniques, fishing ethics, safety issues, and rules and regulations. Receive instruction on baiting a hook, tying knots, casting, and how to handle and return fish to the water. As part of the program participants are provided with rods, reels, and bait for catch-and-release fishing in our stocked lake. All ages are welcome, but children under 14 must be accomanied by an adult.

Have FUN learning about spiders! Create a clay spider, build a web, go on a spider hunt, and much more! Dress to got outside and wear gym shoes (no sandals or crocs).

Campfire Circle
Families (under 13 with adult)
Registration info

Bring the family for a night around the campfire. Learn how to make a fire without matches, sing songs, listen to stories (or tell some of your own), make s'mores, and enjoy the glow of a campfire. All ages are welcome, but children under 14 must be accomanied by an adult.

Rock Hounds

Learn about rocks and ways to investigate them just like the rock hounds of science: geologists. Make a rainbow rock collection to take home. Wear gym shoes for the rock hunt (no sandals or crocs).

All programs and classes require advance registration unless otherwise noted.

Deadline to register is one week prior to the activity date. If minimums are not met by this time the class will be cancelled. Registrations may be accepted after the deadline if the minimum has been met and there is still space available.

There is a $5.00 fee to cancel/change a registration. No refunds without 48 hours notice.

Due to our reciprocal agreement with the Elmhurst Park District, Elmhurst residents must register through the Elmhurst offices to receive resident rates.
