TITLE: Fitness Attendant (Fitness Center)


SUMMARY: The Fitness Attendant is responsible for front line customer service.  The Fitness Attendant is responsible for maintaining the organization and sanitation of the front desk area and fitness rooms, including the cardio, weight, functional training areas, and locker rooms.  The Fitness Attendant is a part time employee working varied hours throughout the week. The position of Fitness Attendant requires the ability to work at an active pace level (75 lbs. or less).

QUALIFICATIONS: The Fitness Attendant should have at least 3 years in a customer service-related position. The Fitness Attendant must have experience working Microsoft computer programs. Experience with Vermont Systems, Inc. (VSI) RecTrac preferred. The Fitness Attendant must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and/or 2 years of college credits.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: The Fitness Attendant is under the supervision of the Fitness and Athletics Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:                                                                                                        

  1. Greet all patrons, members and participants in a professional and courteous manner as they enter the Fitness Center.
  2. Answer the telephone in a professional and courteous manner and direct the call to the appropriate person.
  3. Answer all the patron’s questions, via in person, on the telephone or email; or direct the patron to the appropriate person for the question to be answered. All of this is to be done in a professional and courteous manner. 
  4. Process all program registrations, refunds, program cancellations, memberships and personal training packages.
  5. Assist staff in processing billing payments for Fitness Memberships. 
  6. Assist patrons in completing all paperwork including contracts and permits for the rentals. Be the lead person inputting the information into VSI.
  7. Assure all fitness equipment is put away and organized in the proper place.
  8. Encourage members to put equipment away when finished.
  9. Ensuring members are complying with safety protocols while in the facility.
  10. Clean and sanitize facility and equipment routinely.  These areas include high touch points and will be done during each hour of assigned shift.
    1. Cleaning locker room facilities. 
      1. Reaching to clean tops of lockers
      2. Bending/stooping to clean benches, floors, toilets, sinks, water fountains, partitions etc.
    2. Sanitizing fitness equipment
      1. Bending/Reaching/Stooping to sanitize all areas of the cardio and weight equipment.  As well as equipment in the group exercise studio and basketball court as needed and assigned.
      2. Lifting weights to sanitize and organize.
      3. Reaching to dust, clean and sanitize:
        1. All touch points
          1. Door handles/knobs/railings etc.
          2. Fitness Front Desk area
            1. Desk, phones, computers, printer/copier etc.
        2. Televisions
        3. Dispensers (hand sanitizer and wipes dispensers)
        4. All other areas of the fitness center including
          1. Tables and chairs
          2. Couches
          3. Windows
  11. Perform equipment checks daily.
  12. Teach members how to operate fitness equipment.
  13. Perform basic maintenance such as emptying trash, cleaning floors, dusting etc.
  14. Assist other team members with participating in and preparing for Special Events, copying and distribution of information or materials, and scheduling facilities.
  15. Perform opening and closing tasks.
  16. Knowledge of Park District policies and procedures.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.


  1. Excellent customer service skills, (internal and external customers)
  2. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office.
  3. Ability to successfully use the secondary electronic devices: copy machine, postage machine, laminator and label maker.
  4. Must be able to bend, stoop, lift items up to 75 pounds, climb stairs, turn, walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  5. Work well with all departments and personalities.


  1. Have a basic knowledge of all programs, special events, and memberships; or know how and where to obtain the information.
  2. Assist all employees of the Park District as needed.

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The Fitness Attendant may feel added pressure from the volume of calls, walk in requests, emails about programs, special events and general Park District information. The Fitness Attendant must remain calm and continually share Park District information with patrons.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The Fitness Attendant must be able to bend, stoop, lift items weighing up to 75 pounds, turn, climb stairs, sit, walk, and stand for short or extended periods of time.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS: The Fitness Attendant may be exposed to elements when assisting with outdoor functions. Most activities are preformed indoors; the outdoor conditions may include lighting and extreme temperatures. 

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS: The Fitness Attendant must exhibit good problem-solving ability and good judgment in keeping with the mission of the Park District.

The Fitness Attendant must be in compliance with the loss prevention and safety policies of the Park District.
