The Stage School is thrilled to announce our partnership with the Oakbrook Terrace Park District! At The Stage School, we provide quality part-time training in the performing arts for children between the ages of four to sixteen. In our classes and camps, students will develop the core fundamentals of acting, singing, and dance. Our classes consist of a variety of fun and engaging activities which help kids succeed both on and off the stage.

Studies show that kids who attend activities such as classes in musical theater have increased confidence, poise, and discipline. Not only are these classes for children fun, but they develop essential life skills. We provide the right combination of learning and performing, with opportunities for students of all ages and experience levels.

We are proud to provide the most fun acting classes, dance classes, singing classes, and summer camps for kids in Oakbrook Terrace, IL.

 

 


 

Spring 2021 Classes

Premier Program: Peter Rabbit & Friends

Fun is the focus of this 90-minute class that dedicates 30 minutes each to singing, dancing and acting. Your little star will learn basic vocal technique, understand timing when singing, refine coordination while working on simple rhythm and dance moves, and explore stories and characters through fun drama games and activities. For our Spring Term, we will join Peter Rabbit and his adorable animal friends in the garden. With catchy music and adorable characters, our original musical based on the works of author Beatrix Potter will have your little one hoppin' and boppin' all spring! Classes will be held online as needed in order to comply with all local public health recommendations. If in person performances are not possible, our show will be filmed throughout the term and all families will receive a copy of the finished film.

The Company: Through the Looking Glass

Students in The Company are divided into three groups based on age. They take a one hour class in each of our three disciplines: drama, singing, and dance. Your child will work on vocal technique, train in several dance styles, and hone their drama skills through improv exercises and script work. This spring we will present Through the Looking Glass, an original music revue based on the works of author Lewis Carrol and characters from Alice in Wonderland. Students will create fun and outrageous characters as they present a variety of zany scenes, songs and dances. We'll follow the White Rabbit to explore a fantastic world filled with madcap adventures. Don't be late for this very important date! Classes will be held online as needed in order to comply with all local public health recommendations. If in person performances are not possible, our show will be filmed throughout the term and all families will receive a copy of the finished film.

Creative Drama: Playing the Scene!

Give your child’s imagination a boost! In this one of a kind virtual class, students will learn the fundamentals of drama through engaging games, imaginative play, and storytelling. Your child will develop core skills such as speaking clearly in front of an audience, vocal projection, using their imagination on stage, concentration, and teamwork. The focus of our winter term will be creating scenes through storytelling and improvisation. We will film a showcase of our student's work on the last day of the session, with all families receiving their own copy.

Hip Hop Dance

Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements!

Sketch Comedy and Improvisation

Learn the art of Sketch Comedy and Improv, right from the comfort of home!  Your child will work with a professional teaching artist to develop and rehearse a combination of classic and original sketch comedy pieces! Students will also dive into the art of improv through engaging games, scene work, and improvisational exercises. Fun and hilarity will certainly ensue!  We will create a sketch and improv show that will be filmed for all families to see on the last day of term!

Acting for the Camera

Learn the skills you need to nail that next on camera audition! Students will work on a variety of acting styles specifically tailored to film, television, and commercials. We will explore scenes, monologues and learn important film acting techniques such as how to slate and how to hit your mark. Students will receive a reel of their work after the final class.

Summer Camp

The Birth of Rock and Roll

Popular television host Ted Sullivan is about to introduce Rock 'n Roll to the world during the most important broadcast of his career, unless the scheming Ron Nasty and his henchman can stop the show before it airs! Featuring characters and songs from the Beatles, The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and many more, we guarantee you'll want to swoon and croon right along. Don't step on our "Blue Suede Shoes" because "Rock and Roll is here to stay!' Campers spend the week learning basic performing art skills and rehearsing the musical, and there will be a filmed performance on the final day of camp. Our productions offer fun and challenging roles for performers with all levels of experience. No auditions are required, and all students will be placed in a role that will allow them to shine.
